Lasiodora parahybana
Salmon Pink Birdeater
Adult female
Juvenile
This big-ass terrestrial rivals the Goliath Birdeater, Theraphosa blondi, in size, but cheaper, hardier and a bit more even-tempered. They are very forgiving, and they seem to thrive in a multitude of environments. They won’t hesitate to flick those urticating hairs, and I’ve gotten a few threat displays when my big female is PMS’ing. A great display critter, they don’t mind staying out in the open, probably hoping not to miss a meal. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing her nab a full-grown hisser and the crunching drowns out the TV. Fairly inexpensive, probably due to the eggsacs yielding up to 2,500 eggs!
